Singer Don Dokken says he set out to prove something with Dokken's tenth studio album, LIGHTNING STRIKES AGAIN. Taking its title from a track on the band s platinum 1985 classic Under Lock & Key, the new songs bring the group's sound full circle. It s time that a band from our era did something special and proved that our brand of music is still valid, he says. Our goal was to create an album that was our best since our heyday. Dokken returns to the band's roots for its Rhino debut, LIGHTNING STRIKES AGAIN.

Mixed by Wyn Davis (Dio, Great White), the album features Don Dokken (vocals), Mick Brown (drums), Jon Levin (guitar), and Barry Sparks (bass). LIGHTNING STRIKES AGAIN contains 12 tracks, including the breakout songs, Standing On The Outside, Oasis, and Heart To Stone. The album captures the signature mix of barbed-wire riffs and razor-sharp melodies that made Dokken one of the most dominant creative and commercial forces in the world of melodic hard rock.

This album is really nice, To make it clear for the American audience it would be kind of a mixture between Ben Folds and the Gin Blossoms on their own Indie style.

Most songs are really happy and optimistic and releases a very nice vibe with every chord. Compositions are very nice and well arranged. For the audiophiles, you will really enjoy the mixing and mastering in this album cause everything sounds right in place.

This album has been doing great in the U.K. and its considered among the best albums of 2007.
My girlfriend recommend me this album since she is English and she was totally right. If you want something easy to listen, contemporary and very interesting don't miss this one. You will be very pleased.

When The Used released their debut in 2002, they won me and many people over very quickly with their own quirky blend of pop and hardcore, and helped usher in, whether you like it or not, the current "screamo" trend. However, The Used have enough originality and talent at their disposal to avoid being painted into a corner, so when their second album "In Love & Death" comes around, it's no surprise that it sounds little like their debut. The band has matured in plenty of ways. For starters, the songwriting has shifted a bit. On the first album, they were a band full of young kids who were starving to taste some success. On this release, we have more of a loose concept album full of songs dealing with the subject of both love and death. The songs range from brutal ("Sound Effects & Overdramatics") to harmonious ("All That I've Got) and the band effortlessly handles each moment with glorious soundscapes that speak just as loudly as vocalist Bert McCracken.

Songs like "Let It Bleed" and "Listening" tread a similar path that the debut did, but other songs like "Hard To Say" and "All That I've Got" delve into The Used's knack for pure melody that they toyed around with on previous songs like "On My Own" and "Blue & Yellow." "I Caught Fire" is the catchiest of the bunch, combining all The Used ingredients, and would make a perfect second single. "Take It Away," the first track & first single is absolutely brilliant and addictive (and also features production by Danny Lohner of Nine Inch Nails). The album as a whole is perfect. It definitely lives up to the standard set by the debut. I was a bit skeptical at first, and it took me a few listens to fully warm up, but it pays off. Give this album it's fair chance. The Used are easily the best in their game, and we can only imagine what tricks they will pull out for us on their third album.

The Used's In Love and Death is their official sophomore album, following the tide over hodgepodge of 2003's Maybe Memories. They've found some harder guitars in the interim, filling "Take It Away" and 'I Caught Fire" with directly energizing chord progressions that spill over rewardingly into triumphant choruses. "Away" even revitalizes the ridiculously played-out singing guy/screaming guy dynamic that the Used and so many of their peers unfailingly deploy. The rest of In Love and Death plays directly to the bruised souls and bleeding hearts of tortured teenage scribblers everywhere, incorporating emo/punk revivalist genre touchstones like tortured/sweet vocals, jarring time shifts, and elaborately-layered production techniques. Overall it's a promising effort from the Used.

Some good songs on this. I wasn't too keen to get it due to a fair amount of unknown tracks, but I'm glad I did. Good combination of r'n'b with Brandy's I wanna be down to Sean Paul's I'm still in love to Next's funky wifey and the fab 112 with the classic 'only you'.

The first CD is more upbeat & the second CD is a bit mushy, but I suppose it is a 'love' album.
If ya like some of the tracks on this, then I'm sure you will like most of the 'unknown' ones and it's well worth a listen to... not bad 4 a compilation album at all.... Enjoy :0 )

The world might not have been collapsing around REM at the beginning of the 90s, but it was definitely changing. They'd moved beyond the distinct alt-rock that had gotten them known in the first place, they'd made two previous albums of stellar popcraft to die for (Document and Green), and it was time to try something new. So what did Out of Time have to offer? A veritable buffet of shiny songwriting gems, taken into new territory for this band. Outside the simple guitar/bass/drum alternative setup, this disc overflows with other little treats: mandolin, organ, slide guitar, strings and more vocal harmonies than they'd ever used before. "Radio Song" is a low-key groove embellished with some sweet violin and a guest spot by rapper KRS-One. (And though he chants some words, don't imagine that it's anything like the definition of 'rap' today. This is about as hardcore as vanilla pudding.) The mandolin-heavy "Losing My Religion" was an unexpected-yet-natural change from what had come before. "Me In Honey" is also sweet and remarkably bright, with Michael Stipe's heartfelt vocal delivery nicely complemented by Katie Pierson of the B-52s.

Speaking of strings, they pop up in more places than ever before: the cheesy-but-fun "Shiny Happy People" (also with Katie singing - but you knew that already), the sublimely sweet "Endgame," and the stunning ballad "Half a World Away." If there was any justice in this world, THAT track would have been the smash hit that won the band a heaping armful of Grammys. It's been my single favorite song on the album for close to ten years now, and considering how much I love every minute of sugary perfection offered here.. that's really saying something.

You may have noticed me using the word "sweet" more than is common, and.. well.. when talking about the quiet beauty of Out of Time, it's the adjective that comes to mind the most. "Near Wild Heaven" builds one simple riff into something that's positively endearing. "Belong" shows bassist Mike Mills speaking some vaguely hopeful words while a background chorus soars to the sky. He also takes a vocal turn on "Texarkana" (also with more of those beautiful strings), turning a regretful lament into one of the most driving tunes on the album. I guess it's inevitable that "Country Feedback" should seem a little out of place, since it's a sad half-dirge dropped amid a string of bright hopeful tunes. The earlier "Low" is saved from the same ill-fittingness: it's not dark so much as.. well.. just low. It's carried by a quiet organ and a vaguely disjointed batch of Stipe ramblings before a semi-harsh guitar burns things up for a brief moment.

I could take well over my allotted thousand words describing how much listening enjoyment Out of Time has given me in the past decade, but I'd only end up repeating myself. It's simply classic; not because it sold loads of copies and contained a couple singles everybody now knows by heart, but because it's a strong, solid offering that hasn't aged or dated at all since its release. It's a treasure.

Marking the end of a decade of non-activity, Whitesnake's 'Good To Be Bad' is their 11th studio album. It's a typically hard-rocking affair, with band leader David Coverdale delivering unashamedly masculine glam-metal anthems that will delight die-hard fans.

As the only original member Coverdale essentially is Whitesnake, but replacement guitarist Doug Aldrich acts as a songwriting collaborator for many of the recordings here. This is the album that started my passion for Jose Feliciano's music. It was 1978 and I was thirteen years old when I first heard this masterpiece recording at a friend's home. I remember telling my friend "who's that guy, he's fantastic". Up to that point I had never heard any music performed with so much feeling and emotion. I still remember the first time I heard LIGHT MY FIRE, I was blown away by its Jazzy/Soul feel and Jose's voice and guitar were the most beautiful sounds I had ever heard.

The entire album is a gem there is not one bad song in it. His versions of the Beatles "IN MY LIFE" and the Mama's and The Papas "CALIFORNIA DREAMIN'" are superb and they by far surpass the originals. I love every song on this CD but I have to mention that one of my favorites is the last song on the album which is called "THE LAST THING ON MY MIND", this song is beautiful and Feliciano again does a superb job with the vocals as with his brilliant guitar playing. His instrumental version of "AND I LOVE HER is so beautiful that I can't help the tears from falling it moves me deeply. After I discovered this album I became fascinated with everything that Feliciano did and I started collecting all of his albums in Spanish and English. In either language he is excellent.

This remains one of my favorite albums of all times and I listen to it often. When I found out that Feliciano was blind from birth and born under extreme poverty in the mountains of Lares in his native Puerto Rico, my admiration for him grew even more. I remember saying to myself in a number of occassions "how can someone that is blind be so extremely gifted,talented and versatile". In later years I heard a reporter ask Jose if he thought he was a better musician because he couldn't see, at which point he responded "no not being able to see made me focus better on what I really wanted to do with my life but sight has never had anything to do with it". That is one of the great things that I admired about this brilliant musician is the way he overcame adversity to become one of the greatest performers the world has ever known. FELICIANO! will always be a masterpiece and it should be in the music library of every person who really loves and appreciates beautiful music.

I would like to say that this was the album that catapulted Jose Feliciano to world reknown status as an entertainer of the highest caliber. Please, get this CD you will love it for years and years I guarantee it. A timeless classic for all generations to enjoy.
